Schlegel, Friedrich von
(10 mar. 1772, Hannover, Alemania–12 ene. 1829, Dresde, Sajonia).

Escritor y crítico alemán. Contribuyó con muchos de sus proyectos y teorías a diarios y revistas culturales, entre ellos Athenäum (1798–1800), la revista trimestral que fundó con su hermano August Wilhelm von Schlegel en Jena. Sus estudios del sánscrito lo inspiraron para escribir Sobre la lengua y la sabiduría de los indios (1808), un pionero intento por hacer un estudio comparado de lingüística indoeuropea, obra que se alza como el punto de partida del estudio de las lenguas indoarias y la filología comparada. Su propuesta de desarrollar estudios universales e históricos de literatura comparada ha sido muy influyente y se lo considera el originador de muchas de las ideas filosóficas que inspiraron el primer romanticismo alemán.
